Kabul airport bombings: Death toll rises to 170

Evacuation flights resumed on Friday at the airport Kabul — less than a day after 13 American troops and dozens of Afghans were killed in suicide attacks by ISIS.

Warnings were also received from military officials that more attacks may occur at the airport, and that their risk is heightened as hundreds of Americans and as many vulnerable Afghans as possible move out of the country.

A spokesman for the Afghan health ministry told CBS News on Friday morning that the death toll from the double bombing has already reached 170 people, with the overwhelming majority of the victims being Afghans. Of the 13 US soldiers killed, 10 were Marines.

The day of the attacks was the deadliest for US troops in Afghanistan in a decade. As a result of the attack, at least 18 more American servicemen were wounded.

President Biden, addressing the nation on Thursday, promised that America will not forgive or forget those responsible for the attack. According to the military, US forces are already working to track down the ISIS conspirators behind the bombings.

ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack by posting a photo of the alleged suicide bomber online.
