Utah bride dies in accident on day she married school sweetheart

A 26-year-old Utah woman died in an accident Friday night when another car hit her car, just hours after she married her high school lover, her family said.

According to the Utah Highway Patrol, the accident occurred after 1am on I-15 near Salt Lake City. A Toyota pickup truck driving south on the north lane hit the victim's Toyota Corolla.

A 26-year-old female Corolla driver was fatally injured, UHP said. In addition, a 20-year-old passenger was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The family identified the female driver who died in the accident as Angelica Gabriel Dhondup. They said that Dhondup had just married her high school sweetheart and was returning home from a wedding reception when tragedy struck.

Dhondup had two sons and a daughter with a week left to adopt, the family added on the page GoFundMe.

According to UHP, after the accident, a passer-by stopped by to help the driver and passenger of a Toyota pickup. However, the driver stole the Good Samaritan's pickup truck and was quickly detained. The passenger also tried to escape, but later returned to the scene.

The identity of the pickup driver was not disclosed.
