A child in Florida shot a woman with an unattended pistol during a video call, police said.

A Zoom conference attendee called 911 and said they saw the baby and heard the noise before the woman , Shamaya Lynn, fell on her back, police said.

Lynn, 21, was shot in the head Wednesday in Altamonte Springs, near Orlando. According to media reports, she was the child's mother.

“Investigators have established that the injury was caused by a toddler who found a loaded pistol that an adult had left in the apartment,” Altamonte Springs police said in a statement.

According to the WESH TV channel, the gun belonged to the father of the victim's two young children. Not a single child was injured.

The case is under investigation, no charges have been brought against anyone.

«If you have a firearm, please keep it under lock and key,» the officer emphasized Roberto Ruiz Jr.

«Such incidents could have been avoided.»

According to the organization Everytown for Gun Safety, there were at least 369 unintentional shots by children under the age of 18 last year. 142 cases were fatal.
