Toddler shoots mother during video call with unattended gun

A child in Florida shot and killed a woman with an unattended gun during a video call, police said.

A member of a work-related Zoom conference called 911 and said they saw a baby and heard a noise before the woman , Shamaya Lynn, fell on her back, police said in a statement.

Lynn, 21, was shot in the head Wednesday in Altamonte Springs, near Orlando. According to the media, she was the child's mother.

«Investigators determined that the injury was inflicted by a toddler who found a loaded gun left in the apartment by an adult,» the Altamonte Springs police said in a statement.

According to WESH, the gun belonged to the father of the victim's two young children. No children were harmed.

The case is under investigation and no charges have been filed.

“If you have a firearm, please keep it under lock and key,” the officer said. Roberto Ruiz Jr.

“Incidents like this could have been avoided.”

According to Everytown for Gun Safety, there were at least 369 unintentional shots fired by children under 18 last year, 142 cases were fatal.
