Fake Uber drivers and Lyft Rob the people of Chicago

According to police, fake drivers Uber and Lyft pick up passengers in the most prestigious neighborhoods of Chicago and robbing them at gunpoint guns.

At least five people were robbed by the drivers of taxi services from the end of may in River North, Gold Coast and Lincoln Park. In each incident the victim sat in a vehicle, believing it to be a taxi, which they did. Then, under the gun pistol, they have taken valuables and money.

According to police, the robbery took place in «early morning hours»:

  • May 28 in the 2000 block on North Halsted Street
  • June 4 in the 500 block on North Dearborn Street
  • June 4 in the 1100 block on North State Street
  • On June 17 in the 0-100 block of West Illinois Street
  • June 30 in the 2100 block on North Clark Street

Police are asking the users of the mobile taxi apps to verify the driver’s name and license plate number of the taxi with those that are in the app info before you get in the car, because the robberies are becoming more common.
