The fire in Brooklyn: man burned to death, another four were injured

One person died and four were injured during a severe fire in a six-storey house on Kingston Avenue in Crown Heights, Brooklyn.

As told to Daily News fire Department, the fire started after 22 o’clock in the evening of 10 August, on the second floor of the house. The flames spread quickly above the third floor. About 40 minutes 60 firefighters fought the fire.

According to firefighters, the 56-year-old man, Rupert Smith was found dead. He died in the fire, the body was badly burned.

«I was in the apartment, it was shrouded in heavy smoke,» says Smith’s roommate, Gary Lawson. «I heard he shouted: «Fire!», tried to find it in the smoke, I called but he didn’t respond, and I thought he had already left the building.»

36-year-old Shatoya, who lives on the sixth floor, said that wanted to send their children down so they ran outside but everything was filled with smoke. «Then we used the fire exit,» she adds.

Four people swallowing the acrid smoke, was taken to the hospital Kings County, their lives are out of danger.

The cause of the fire is still unknown, ongoing investigation.
