Terminally ill new Yorkers are denied the «right to death»

The Supreme court of new York unanimously upheld the decision of the state on the prohibition for physicians to help patients commit suicide.

The court of appeal upheld lower rulings that do not allow physicians to assist terminally ill patients in the care of life — the so-called «right to die».

Terminally ill new Yorkers are denied the «right to death»

«Although new York has long recognized the right of an adult to refuse life-saving medical care, we reject plaintiffs’ arguments that a person has a constitutional right to assistance in death as they define it,» wrote the judges in their decision.

This decision — the defeat of the advocacy group «the Choice of end of life.» Lawyers in this group argued that patients wishing to avoid suffering should be allowed to receive medicationthat would ensure them a calm and peaceful departure from life.

The Catholic conference of new York welcomed the court’s decision, reports the Daily News.
«The court has wisely determined that the law of new York prohibiting assisted suicide, should apply to all, including doctors,» says Kathleen M. Gallagher, the activist-prolifer Catholic conference.

According to lawyers, the next year they again will attempt to adopt a lawallowing assisted suicide doctor.
The law on the «right to death» now operates in Colorado, Vermont, California, Oregon, Washington and Washington, D.C.
