Man caught smuggling counterfeit UGG $2.5 million

A resident of long island contraband smuggled into the city fake UGG boots in the amount of $ 2.5 million for further sale in new Jersey.

On Tuesday, Shi, Wei Zheng, 42, pleaded guilty to manufacturing counterfeit goods. The district attorney of new Jersey, William Fitzpatrick, said that the man managed to smuggle containers with fake UGG boots through the port of Newark.

From September 2016 to February 2017 Zheng received at least three containers of counterfeit shoes. He asked workers to unload them before the customs officers and border services the United States conducted their inspection.

Zheng paid people more than $ 50,000 for supplies and planned to sell 15 000 pairs of boots through a network of distributors working for him.

But before Zheng was able to sell boots, law enforcement intercepted a container. After it became known that they are counterfeit goods, the smuggler was arrested. The detention was carried out on 7 March 2017.

The man faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine of $ 2 million for the offense. According to court documents, the verdict will be announced at the hearing on 23 January 2018.
