On Tuesday the house of representatives made a decision to give law enforcement more opportunities to the suppression of crimes against the elderly. The bill stipulates measures of protection from financial exploitation, fraud, physical and emotional abuse and neglect.
Members of the house voted for the Law on prevention of mistreatment towards the elderly and their protection. The next stage – the signing into law by President Donald trump.
«We need to ensure that the necessary measures to protect our older citizens, and that is exactly what you need to do this bill,» — said the Chairman of the Committee on judicial Affairs of the house of representatives Bob Goodlatte (Richmond, VA).
In the text of the bill provides that in each Federal district will be assigned to a Deputy Prosecutor who will deal with legal advice on issues related to abuse against the elderly, to initiate criminal proceedings and to ensure the collection of data.
The bill refers to the establishment of special programs for FBI agents. It will include familiarization with the «specialized strategies» to assist older people and developing the necessary skills of communication with victims of abuse.
Another article of the law provides for increased fines for those involved in the scams to trade on the phone, via email and thus prey on the people of retirement age. In the case of confirmation fraud on the court, offenders will have to pay any property or income against fraud in the context of the sentence.
