The culprit of last year’s bombings in Chelsea spends the rest of his days in prison

On Monday, Manhattan Federal court returned a verdict Ahmad Khan Rahimi, who organized the explosions in new York’s Chelsea and new Jersey. The indictment contains 8 items related to the use of weapons of mass destruction and bombing a public place.

On 17 September last year, the native of Afghanistan detonated two explosive devices: one of them worked in new Jersey near the site of a charity marathon, and the second at the intersection of 23rd street West and 6th Avenue in Manhattan, where a lot of nightlife. Surprisingly in new Jersey there were no casualties, but during the new York incident, injuring 29 people. Near the scene discovered another bomb — it didn’t work.

Soon after the attack Rahimi was detained in the city of Linden, new Jersey. More than a year he was awaiting trial, but now will answer for their actions to the fullest extent of the law. A criminal doomed to spend the rest of his life behind bars.

«Today’s court — victory new York, victory for America in its fight against terror and victory for all who believe in justice,» said acting Prosecutor of Manhattan Joon H. Kim.

«Today we celebrate a victory, but I urge citizens to remain vigilant and to immediately report to the authorities suspicious activity», — commented on the accusation by the head of the new York office of the FBI William Sweeney.

According to a press release from the Department of justice, after having been charged Rahimi re-appear before court on 18 January 2018 district judge Richard M. Berman will read the sentence to life imprisonment.

Note that despite the large amount of evidence Rahimi and pleaded not guilty. His lawyers intend to appeal the verdict.
