More than 20 percent of the weapons confiscated in Chicago, brought in from Indiana

The Chicago police Department confiscated about 7,000 weapons per year, and more than 20% of the seized weapons is brought to the city from Indiana.

A report on the origin of confiscated weapons were released by the Department Sunday. The paper presents the results of the analysis of the origin of the weapons seized in the city from 2013 to 2016. The conclusions of the experts are as follows:

  • About 40% of the weapons seized in Chicago, was purchased in Illinois. Another 21% in Indiana.
  • Almost 95% of people accused of illegal possession of firearms, was not his first buyers.
  • 21.2% of confiscated weapons were acquired from 10 dealers. Shop Chuck’s Gun Shop in suburban Riverdale has sold 6,7% of the total arms seized in Chicago.

In 2016, the Chicago police seized 243 weapons per 100 000 inhabitants of the city. For comparison, in Los Angeles confiscated annually on average 149 weapons per 100 000 population, and in new York – 42 weapons per 100 000 people.
