The landlord of the Upper East side is trying to evict 100-year-old woman remove from its housing with controlled rents. It turns out that the victim of this story — yusta Lopez – about a year ago after falling in his apartment, broke her hip and all these months spent in the hospital. The landlord, according to the woman, just enjoy the situation and wants to «cash in» on her illness.
Lopez has filed a lawsuit hoping to keep the right to housing and to force the landlord to refurbish it, making it more secure. The woman States that over the last 50 years never missed a payment. Long immigrated to the States from Puerto Rico in 1948, settling in new York, opened a beauty salon on Second Avenue, where he worked until retirement.
«They were waiting for when they will be able to get rid of me,» said Lopez, The New York Post. «This is my house, my whole life was there.» The woman lived in his apartment on First Avenue and East 78th Street more than half a century, raised her three children, and now enjoys visits 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
