The President promised Americans «a meaningful and beautiful Christmas gift» – tax cuts. And now he has a chance to keep his word.
But the gift will really «significant» is not for everyone, because under the new bill a significant reduction in taxes is expected only to wealthy citizens and businessmen.
It is worth noting that about 400 American rich – which supposedly makes reform a few weeks ago sent a letter to Congress, urging not to reduce their taxes.
Despite this, trump has not changed his purpose. A few hours after the pre-dawn vote, the President praised the Senate for approving a «Grand tax reform» and stressed: «People will be very very happy.»
Republican leaders also continue to celebrate the victory in the Senate. They predict that tax cuts will encourage U.S. companies to invest more and stimulate economic growth.
«We have the opportunity to make America more competitive,» said Mitch McConnell, the Republican leader in the Senate.
Note that the bill was adopted by a margin of 2 votes. In this case the Democrats in full strength voted against the proposed bill; they supported one of the Republicans – Bob Corker, who from the beginning were opposed to any increase in the Federal deficit.
«The Republicans managed to create a bad bill and make it even worse,» – commented the leader of the Democrats in the Senate, Chuck Schumer. Under the cover of darkness and using making hasty changes at the last minute they filled the pockets of the rich and large corporations even more money.»
After only a few hours after the tax reform in new York held protests against the decision. The demonstrators gathered near the restaurant, where today, trump’s planned charity event to raise funds.
