Human rights activists demand to restrict the use of e-cigarettes in new York

Human rights activists in the health sector require the Senate to approve tighter restrictions on the use of e-cigarettes, reports The Daily News.

A coalition of almost a dozen human rights groups led by the American cancer society, actively «storming» the Republicans control the Senate, the various motions on amendments to the legislation, petitions, phone calls and social network messages with a request to «make a choice» between public health and big profits of tobacco companies and companies producing electronic cigarettes. The group plans to launch a public campaign on Tuesday.

«Whether they will take the side of children and the health of the population, or they will be on the side of big tobacco companies and companies producing e-cigarettes?», — commented on the initiative of Julia HART, Director of public relations at American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network. «If they do not accept a law limiting the use of electronic cigarettes, they’ll show whose side they take in reality.»

Coalition members want the Senate passed a bill that would extend the effect of the clean air Act in new York on electronic cigarettes, banning them in most bars, restaurants and workplaces.

The proposed measures were supported last month the Democrats controlled the Assembly and the health Committee of the Senate. What will be the decision of the Senate as a whole is not yet known.
