Russian hacker was sentenced to 12 years in prison in the US for the million scheme

The Federal court of new Jersey sentenced two Russian citizens to imprisonment in an American prison for a regular hacker attack, which caused losses in the hundreds of millions of dollars.

Vladimir drinkman was arrested in the Netherlands in June 2012 and extradited to the United States in February 2015. Wednesday, February 14, he was sentenced to 12 years in prison.

Another defendant in the case, 34-year-old Dmitry Smilyanetsas Drinkman, in September 2015, he pleaded guilty to conspiracy. He was also sentenced to prison, but for a shorter period is 4 year and 3 month.

As it became known during judicial proceedings, the hackers engaged in so-called sniffer program to intercept and analyze network traffic, with which they were stealing data from computer systems of financial companies, retailers and payment operators.

According to prosecutors, the defendants sold the collected data, receiving from 10 to 50 dollars per credit card, depending on country of release.

This scheme eventually led to the fact that banks and credit card companies have suffered hundreds of millions of losses. Only three companies officially announced the loss of more than three hundred million dollars.
