More and more schools in the US hires armed guards

While the American public is debating the advisability of arming the teachers, schools increasingly hiring professional armed protection.

As shown by a study conducted by the National center of education statistics (National Center for Education Statistics) in the 2015/2016 academic year, 43% of public schools in the United States armed guards were present at least 1 time a week. (For comparison, 10 years ago armed guards hired 31% of schools.) And, admittedly, this measure paid off: according to the survey, over the past 10 years the number of cases of violence, theft and other crimes in schools decreased.

Explaining his position, supporters of armed guards schools lead mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School (Parkland, FL) February 14: Deputy Sheriff first arrived on the scene, did not dare to enter the building where the shots were fired.

On the other hand, even growing staff of armed guards is not able to provide students with the absolute security. Statistics of the last decade disappointing: every year the number of deaths in schools ranged from 45 to 63 people. For the 2015/2016 academic year killed 47 students and school staff.

Also, critics of the idea of bringing armed guards claim that the mere presence of people with weapons will have a negative impact on the psyche of children.

But Ronald Stephens, Executive Director of the National security Council of schools (National School Safety Council), I am convinced that experienced armed guards will be able in time to disarm the attackers and prevent the recurrence of her tragedy.
