In Alabama today executed the oldest in the US sentenced to death

Today, at 18.00, local time, in Alabama to be executed 83-year-old convict.

If the execution is scheduled, it will be the 8th death sentence, executed in the U.S. since the beginning of the year, and Walter Moody will be the oldest in the country’s modern history executed.

To Moody the oldest sentenced to death since 1976 (when the Supreme court returned the death penalty) was a 77-year-old John Nixon of Mississippi, who was executed in 2005.

In 1989, Walter Lee Moody was convicted of mailing bombbecause of the explosion which killed a district court judge Robert Vance and a civil rights lawyer from Georgia Robert Robinson. And lawyer Moody was killed, only to confuse the investigation, as he was not even a resident of Alabama.
All these years, the convict insisted on his innocence, even filed a petition for pardon on the state level. In Federal courts, his lawyers have not addressed.

In the beginning of 2018 in Alabama after several unsuccessful attempts, refused the execution of 61-year-old Doyle Hamm. Due to problems with the veins of the man could not enter the lethal injection. In addition, he was diagnosed with terminal cancer. In the end, lawyers Hamm was unable to reach agreement with the authorities of the state to their client committed suicide in a prison cell, not in cell death.
