In new York drivers stopped at red, forbidden to write SMS messages

Member of the legislative Assembly of new York Felix Ortiz introduced a bill prohibiting writing a text message while stopped at a red light.

According to Ortiz, the law has a loophole that allows you to use your phone while driving. In this case, both the police and the courts often do not know what to do with the drivers who use the phone while stopped on a red or from any other pointer of the road.

The official said that this law will save how drivers and law enforcement agencies from ambiguity, because the person will not be allowed to use the phone while driving until the ignition key is turned on.

In addition to stop at a red light, the bill includes a stop sign, the intersection of railway or tube.

According to a recent poll by Huffington Post/YouGov, more than half of people aged 18 to 44 years old can TEXT, standing on forbidding signal of the traffic light, and among older people (45 to 65 years) – 40%.

«Common sense dictates that you should never write a message while driving, – stressed Ortiz. – You can lose your life over a stupid TEXT, regardless of whether the driver is in motion or waiting at the green light».

According to the survey, almost 47% of smartphone users consider acceptable to text someone while driving.

At the beginning of the year, member of the legislative Assembly introduced a bill that would prohibit using a smartphone while crossing the streets around new York.
