In new York they want to ban soda in kids menu restaurants

Children with a fondness for «happy meal» at McDonald’s, do not like the new bill, which intend to take to city Council.

Lawmakers in new York propose to replace the sugary fizzy drinks for water, milk and 100% fruit juice children’s menu in restaurants. The speaker of the city Council Corey Johnson has already supported this initiative, which was proposed by Democrat Benjamin Kallos.

«We want our children had access to a healthy lifestyle, and standard options of beverages in the framework of the bill support this goal,» said Johnson.

Post notes that the law does not mean a direct ban on the use of children soda because the parents can ask any of available beverages at checkout.

This bill has a better chance for success because, unlike failed attempts by mayor Mike Bloomberg to ban the sale of large bottles of soda water in the grocery stores and movie theaters, the idea of Kallos was supported by the American Association of drinks producers.

This fall, the health Committee of the city Council will hold a hearing on the bill. If the government will vote for this measure, it will apply to all 24 thousand restaurants in the Big Apple, including Burger King, McDonald’s and other fast food chains.
