«Political refugee» from Uzbekistan in the United States received 11 years in prison for aiding terrorists

42-year-old native of Uzbekistan Jamshid of Muhtorovliving in the United States on the rights of a political refugee, was sentenced yesterday, August 30 in Denver (Colorado) to 11 years in prison for support of terrorists.

In June 2018 Muhtorov was found guilty in smuggling of smart phones and other electronic equipment for the Islamic Jihad Union (IJU), the Pakistani Islamic militant organization, which opposes secular rule in Uzbekistan.

«To protect our country from terrorism — the main mission of the Ministry of justice,» said attorney Bob Troyer, Recalling that IJU in America, recognized as a terrorist organization.

After serving his term of imprisonment, Muhtorov will be transferred to ICE for deportation.

Jamshid Muhtorov was arrested in 2012 in the Chicago airport when he was going to fly to Istanbul.

According to court documents, the man swore allegiance to the Union of Islamic Jihad and told his 8-year-old daughter: «Pray to your father became a Martyr…»

Previously, July 18, to 76 months of imprisonment in a Federal prison was sentenced accomplice Muhtorov — Bakhtiyor Jumaev.
