For the first time in the history of Kazakhstan guilty of sex crimes against children will subject to chemical castration. The procedure will happen in a few months after changes in the legislation.
1 January 2018 and entered into force a law on compulsory chemical castration for pedophiles. After more than 9 months it must result in action. The first will experience this type of punishment man from Turkestan, whose name was not disclosed. He will make a special injection under the supervision of experts of the Ministry of health of Kazakhstan.
According to the Deputy Byrganym Aitimova, castration, consisting of «single injection» will be «temporary» phenomenon and a warning to pedophile. However, skeptics argue that the holding of such kind of castration does not guarantee the prevention of future violence.
Proposals on these measures were heard among American politicians: at the beginning of this year, Republican Rick West insisted on making in Oklahoma the law on chemical castration of some sex offenders. Moreover, in seven States there is already a provision allowing courts to ask about the injection to reduce the testosterone levels in men.
California became the first state to pass such a law in 1996. And in Texas sexual offenders-recidivists allowed to voluntarily undergo surgical castration. Also appropriate measures exist in Georgia, Florida, Louisiana, Montana, Oregon and Wisconsin.
However, many experts argue that in all States, in practice, punishment seldom realized, and one even described it as «fantastic» version of criminal justice.
