A new DNA test helped solve the murder of a student, Mary Pearls 45-year-old

On Tuesday, November 20, representatives of the office of the Sheriff County of Santa Clara (CA) arrested 74-year-old John Arthur Getreu after new DNA analysis has helped to establish his involvement in the murder of a graduate of Stanford Leslie Marie Perlov in 1973.

But law enforcement is not going to stop. According to Sheriff Laurie Smith, Getreu could be a serial killer.

«We know that he committed the murder. We believe that there are other cases that may be similar [to this],» said the Sheriff.

13 Feb 1973 21-year-old Leslie Marie Perlov was gone. The last time she was seen in the workplace in Palo Alto. Later in the day was discovered the car girl orange Chevrolet Nova 1972. According to the Sheriff’s office, the girl’s body found 3 days later under a tree not far from the place where they found her car. The coroner stated that the cause of death Gems was strangulation.

In July, the government gave the company Parabon NanoLabs unknown DNA profile of the man, found in the evidence to the case of Pearls. Experts by using the «innovative genetic analysis, sophisticated methods of identification and traditional genealogical methods to establish the correlation between an unknown subject and his/her known ancestors» found that the DNA might belong Getreu.
