The mayor vs Christmas: the residents of old Bridge are fighting for a festive installation at your home

15 years Thomas and Chris Abruzzi set on Christmas eve in the courtyard of his house a huge display and organize colorful light show. But this year, Christmas nights in old bridge, a small town in new Jersey, you can stay as dark as on weekdays.

The creators of the Christmas show asked for help on GoFundMe.

To watch the light installation family Abruzzi attracts the inhabitants of the neighborhood children and local schools are organized to bring students on buses. The show is free, but voluntary residents and guests of the town (in recent years, come here even from remote locations) donate some funds. All your Abruzzi transmitted to Homes For Our Troops is a charitable veterans ‘ organization that help combatants find themselves in a peaceful life «on the citizen».

Show TA Sprinkler Light became world famous in 2014 when a family of Abruzzi took part in the competition of ABC’s Great Christmas Light Fight, which was broadcast channel ABC.

The mayor in the role of a Christmas villain

This year the city authorities objected to the installation. A light show that has become a massive event, I want to ban because it requires security and control of street and pedestrian traffic.

When the townspeople heard the rumors about the ban of the show, hundreds of his fans signed a petition demanding the mayor not to spoil a holiday to citizens and not to ban TA Sprinkler Light. 19 November, meeting with residents, the mayor was allowed show. But soon the tale told, but no deal is done soon.

Thomas Abruzzi called the police and ordered to pay:

  • $2 thousand for increased police surveillance necessary to ensure public order during the show;
  • $1 million for buses to transport students;
  • the work of the officials who are to tell people how to get to places.
  • other expenses for each night of the installation.

Total — $75 thousand for 23 nights.

Usually TA Sprinkler Light starts December 1 and continues until Christmas. Such money from the organizers of the show there, and to charge for spectators for viewing they don’t think is right.

Show must go on

The first few nights, until Abruzzi are prepared to pay for themselves, but the rest of the amount you plan to collect through GoFundMe, although the time on the charges have very little. All hope that the city administration will bother to pretend to be the villain and the Christmas celebration in old bridge still held.
