The new laws will make traffic safer in California

With the New year in California will take effect several new laws and amendments that should improve the situation on the roads of the state. First of all, tougher penalties for driving while intoxicated and endangering the safety of minors.

Starting from 1 January 2019 and before January 1, 2026 offenders for the first time or re-detained for DUI will have to install in their vehicles ignition interlock device for a period of 12 to 48 months if their actions caused damages or injuries. For those who first committed a similar crime without prejudice, the period of alcolock installation of up to 6 months.

Minors for driving without a helmet on a Bicycle, scooter, roller skates or skateboard will also face a fine. Teenage offender will have to take courses in safe driving and to buy a special helmet. But for riders over 18 years of age helmets are no longer required.

What rules come into force?

  • Licensed sellers of new and used vehicles will be required to affix temporary license plates to vehicles if they don’t have previous numbers from the DMV. Without these signs, the machine will not be able to leave the Parking lot of the store.
  • From checking the exhaust California legislators released cars, released no more than 8 years ago. The previous law allowed not to check this option in new car for 6 years.
