In California by 2021, could become compulsory kindergartens full day

Kindergartens, working full daycan become the norm for California by 2021.

A new bill introduced a member of the state Assembly Shirley Weber. On the same day Governor Gavin Newsom has proposed to invest $2 billion in the development of preschool education and to open kindergartens full day across the state.

Under the bill, the beginning of the 2021/2022 school year, each California school district must operate a kindergarten full day, where will be held daily more than 4 hours of classroom instruction, not counting the time for a break.

Today, 25% of preschool institutions in California teaching the children on the programme for half a day. Weber believes that full-day kindergarten to the number of classes as in 1st grade school — would help kids better prepare for school and then in College.

«Kindergarten full-day have to make time to meet all educational needs of the child. It should cover all the areas of study including visual and performing arts, and physical education, as specified in the approved government training programmes», — stated in the bill.

Regular kindergarten often offers morning and afternoon classes in the same classrooms. The transition to full-day will solve the problem of lack of space.

Opponents of the law believe that to decide how much the child is spending time in kindergarten and how intensively to engage, must, first of all, parents. In 2014, Governor Jerry brown vetoed a similar bill, noting that parents determine what their children better.

The California Department of education has not yet announced its position against the bill and no it is not commented.
