Newsome plans to allocate $20 million for three years, starting in July, to help SDRRN. He also asked the Legislature to approve the funding of $5 million until June this year. According to the Governor, organizations that help migrants in San Diego, work wear and require additional resources.

Rapid Response Network for several months, asked the support of the local authorities and the state government. Volunteers of San Diego opened its temporary asylum in October 2018. Since its appearance crossed the border about 5 thousand workers, most of whom remained in San Diego for 1-3 days, before heading in the right city in the United States. The shelter moved 5 times and still not found a permanent place.

The Supervisory Board of the County of San Diego recently voted to allocate shelter space in the city. The district also hired in a temporary shelter with medical personnel to conduct examinations. City hall San Diego began negotiations with SDRRN a month and a half ago. The city has proposed the use of Camp Barrett, a centre for minors, as a refuge. Norma Chavez-Peterson, Executive Director of the American Civil Liberties Union were concerned that the mayor’s office has released the name of the place. The organizers of the shelters are trying hard to keep his whereabouts secret to protect migrants.

Chavez-Peterson said SDRRN is still studying the options and would be grateful for new suggestions. According to her, the shelter will move again in February, but the organizers have not found another place. The question of whether the budget is still allocated and what are the conditions required to obtain them dependent on the Legislature.
