Public pressure on the immigration authorities last week was reinforced by an official request from the office of the United Nations, who considered the force-feeding of a violation of the UN Convention against torture.

We are talking about two immigrant Punjabi Sikh Malkit Singh and Jasvir Singh who went on hunger strike. On Wednesday, Federal U.S. district judge in El Paso David Guaderrama hearing from Dr. Michelle Iglesias about how men in custody hold in the tubes for feeding through the nose, also said that it should be terminated immediately.

The press Secretary of the office of the high Commissioner on human rights Ravina Shamdasani said last week that the office is considering force-feeding as «cruel treatment», which is contrary to the Convention, ratified by the United States in 1994.

The statement by the press Secretary ICE Leticia Zamarripa says that in total in different detention centre force-fed this way 12 detainees — nine from India, three from Cuba. Allegedly, this was done with the permission of the judges…

A judge in El Paso David Guaderrama not confirmed that allowed such measures in his district, but warned that if the health of the starving will begin to deteriorate, it will consider the issue of forced feeding.

A member of the Democratic party of Texas Veronica Escobar, who visited the centre in El Paso and met with starving Sikhs two weeks ago, says they are «deeply traumatized» and fragile. To her question why they refuse to eat, they replied, «We rather die in America than to be deported».
