The California Senate passed a bill authorizing medical abortions in College campuses

Monday, may 20, the Senate of California passed a bill under which state colleges and universities will have the right to do students medical abortion in clinics campuses.

If bill 24 is passed by the Assembly and signed by Governor Gavin Nudemom, California will become the first state in which there is a law of this kind.

The adoption of the bill in the Golden state occurred a few days after the Governor of Alabama Kay Ivey signed a bill banning nearly all abortions in the state, including in cases of rape or incest. Previously in Georgia, Ohio and Missouri have also adopted very strict laws banning abortion.

The author of the bill 24 was the Senator from the Democratic party Connie M. Leyva.

«At that time, as other States were doing giant step back to the days of outright misogyny, California continues to lead the American nation, Reaffirming a constitutional right to abortion without undue delay, including at student health centers on campuses,» said Senator Leyva.

He added that the bill confirms the commitment of California to the rights of women.

In the case of adoption of law, all medical centers in the campuses of universities in California will be able to students from non-surgical (medical) abortion. It will be available within 70 days after pregnancy.

To cover the costs of medical centers campuses will provide grants.

The bill passed the state Senate 28 votes to 10. All Democrats voted for and all Republicans against.

If bill will take the state Assembly and signed by Governor Gavin Newsom, the law will come into force on 1 January 2023.
