The family gave permission to disconnect my brother from life support, but they were not his sisters

The hospital turned off the life support of the patient after consent was given someone else’s family.

The man was taken to the hospital Mercy Hospital in Chicago, Illinois in April after he was found unconscious under a car, naked and with wounds on her face. Chicago police were able to identify him as Alfonso Bennett, and in may, the hospital contacted the patient’s relatives.

He died after the sisters agreed to switch off life support, but the real Mr. Bennett later appeared on the family barbecue. He went and appeared at a time when the family organized his funeral.

After the fingerprints taken at the morgue, the police later established the true name of the deceased men Elisha of Pittman (69 years), and then got in touch with his real family.

Now a lawsuit against the hospital and the city of Chicago filed both families, putting forward charges of negligence and causing emotional trauma.

When the patient was brought to the hospital, the victim was registered as John DOE – the name given to those, whose real name is unknown. After the families were told that their brother is in the hospital, they questioned him when he went to visit him.

«I asked, «How do you confirmed that this man is my brother?»» — said his sister Rosie Brooks. «Deep inside I couldn’t see him.» Then the hospital staff told the sisters that they can’t recognize a brother because of the wounds on the face and suggested that they simply can not believe what happened.

The present whereabouts of Mr. Bennett at that time was unknown.
