The Philadelphia police Department (PA) plans to lay off 13 officers after the investigation of racist and violent comments posted to their social networks.
According to police Commissioner Richard Ross Jr., the messages were discovered under The Plain View Project, which creates a «database of public posts in Facebook and comments made by current and former police officers».
«I’m still very angry and disappointed by these posts, many of which, in my opinion, violate the basic principles of human decency — said Ross told reporters. And I am saddened by the fact that there are even those who try to justify this hatred and vile behavior.»
Last month, the Philadelphia police conducted its own investigation of social media posts made 328 active police officers, which allegedly included anti-Muslim sentiment, violent remarks and racist comments. According to researchers, such statements can undermine the credibility of local law enforcement agencies.
