Stephen West was sentenced to death for the kidnapping and brutal murder of 51-year-old Wanda Romines, as well as for the rape and murder of her teenage daughter Sheila Romines.
At the time West was a 23-year-old employee of McDonald’s, which spent three years in the U.S. army.
A request for clemency to the Governor bill Lee West’s lawyers claimed that his then 17-year-old accomplice, Ronnie Martin was the one who killed mother and daughter, West was an accomplice, but «himself did not kill.» The lawyers also claimed that as a child in the West was violent, and he was taking powerful drugs.
