California has banned officials and students to visit Iowa because of state gender policy

The attorney General of California Xavier Becerra announced a ban on travel funded by the taxpayers in Iowa.

This decision was taken after Iowa was canceled «gender protection» under the program Medicaid – that is, now there’s the sex change surgery is not covered by the state program.

The order of Becerra means that civil servants and students of state universities will not be able to come to Iowa. The prohibition, however, does not apply to College athletes who travel to competitions.

12 years ago the legislature of Iowa defended gender identity in accordance with the civil rights Act. This law prohibits denial of service or discrimination against people on grounds of their gender identity.

However, this year the Governor of Iowa, Republican Kim Reynolds, signed a bill that repeals the Medicaid coverage for sex change surgery.

The Iowa bill comes into force 4 Oct.

«The legislature of the state of Iowa changed its course and reversed that was made in the civil rights Act. They stopped supporting people who seek medical help, wanting to change gender. California has taken a clear position against such discrimination and the actions of the government of Iowa,» said attorney the Golden state.

California protects a gender-oriented treatments since 1978.

Iowa is not the first state in the list of «travel ban» in California. There also includes Texas, Oklahoma, North Carolina, Mississippi and Kentucky.
