Investigation WSJ: Amazon is selling clothing that is made in dangerous factories, blacklisted

The world’s largest retailer Amazon sells the clothing produced in dozens of Bangladeshi factories, abandoned the leading retail sellers.

According to a new investigation by the Wall Street Journal, on the website you can find the clothes produced at the factories in Bangladesh, listed in the black list.

The collapse of the garment factory Rana Plaza in 2013, which killed more than 1,100 people, has led to the fact that large us retailers have joined the group security control that demanded from its suppliers to comply with higher security standards.

As reported by The Journal, for example, children’s t-shirt yellow plaid, embroidered flowers, which was sold on Amazon for $4.99, was made in a factory in Chittagong (Bangladesh). 18-year-old Nasreen Begum, working at the factory, told The Journal that she spends in the workplace 12 hours a day.

«You are trapped inside, until we complete the orders,» she told The Journal.

Such retailers as Walmart Inc., Target Corp., Costco Wholesale Corp. and Gap Inc., agreed to respect the ban on the supply of garments from factories, which created dangerous working conditions.

The press Secretary told The Journal that Amazon checks the factories that supply their brands to ensure they meet international safety standards. They expect that these wholesalers and sellers will also be followed.

«If we become aware that the product is manufactured in a plant that may not meet the standards of our supply chain representative said, — we will remove the product from our store».
