Parents-vegans starved baby hunger, giving him only raw vegetables and fruits

Parents-vegans fed their baby only raw fruits and vegetables — and then moved on to one breast milk. As a result, the child died from exhaustion.

30-year-old Ryan O’leary and 35-year-old Sheila O’leary was arrested last week in Cape coral (Florida) in connection with the death of their 18-month-old son two months earlier.

At the time of death the baby weighed only 17 pounds, which is the norm for a 7-month-old baby. The autopsy showed that the boy died of several complications, related to strong depletion: in particular, from dehydration and microsteatosis liver. In addition, it was observed severe swelling of the limbs.

The incident occurred on September 27. Sheila O’leary called 911 after he found that the child was not breathing. Meanwhile, the baby’s father tried to revive him but to no avail. Paramedic declared the boy dead on arrival.

Interrogating the couple, police noticed a painful view of two other children, 3 and 5 years. When weighing it turned out that they have a strong exhaustion. One of the kids even started to rot the teeth. The third child born to O’leary from the other men, looked relatively healthy — obviously because regularly visited the biological father and lived with him for two weeks in a month.

O’leary informed the authorities that her whole family is vegan and eats only raw fruits and vegetables. She also confirmed that the deceased child had not received solid food for weeks and only drank breast milk. The woman added that drew attention to his heavy breathing in the day of death, however, did not pay attention to it and went to sleep.

The cause of death of the boy were able to establish 6 Nov. Shortly thereafter O’leary surrendered to the police. They are accused of manslaughter.
