The correctional staff of Virginia strip-searched an 8-year-old girl — after she was told that was not allowed to see her father if she refused.
The girl who came to the Buckingham Correctional Center in Delvine accompanied by the girl’s father, said that if she refused the search, then both of them may not be allowed to go to the state prison. This happened during their visit on November 24.
«I told her, what this means is that you have to remove all your clothes, otherwise you will not be able to see his father, — told the Virginian-Pilot diamond perman, a friend of the prisoner. — It was then that she began to weep.»
According to perman, he informed the guards that he is not the child’s guardian, but she still has to sign a consent form for a search.
Prison policy allows for such searches, but their execution without the consent of the legal guardian violates the policy of the Department, said the representative of the correctional institution.
«It is deeply disturbing and is a violation of our Protocol, — said the press-Secretary of the DOC Lisa Kinney. We sincerely apologize to this child and her family and will take immediate disciplinary action against the responsible person».

Girl suffering from bipolar disorder, depression and ADHD, missed school because of this incident. According to mother, she will no longer go to the father.
«Her father good relationship… because she visits him every weekend, — the woman told the newspaper. But at the same time, she experienced something that traumatized her. I can’t send her there.»
