38-year-old resident of Santa CLARITA (CA) was sentenced to five years in prison for trying to cheat twice popular wedding website the Knot.

In October 2016 Vermette Miller ordered a wedding reception in Glendale, along with the insurance policy in the amount of $10 thousand.

Soon, the woman stated that she tripped on her wedding dress and was seriously injured, and this meant that she would have to cancel the wedding reception. Miller then filed suit to obtain insurance reimbursement. She also made fake medical reports as evidence. 31 October 2016, Miller received a check for $10 thousand.

But a few weeks later she informed the insurer of the site that the document was stolen and sent a copy of the police report.

Investigators found that Miller had used previously submitted the police report for another incident a few years ago.

«A series of fraudulent claims Miller led to a prison sentence of five years immediately after the detectives of the Department revealed its scheme — said in a statement, the insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara. — Insurance fraud — a serious crime with serious penalties and consequences.»

In addition to the prison sentence, Miller was ordered to pay $22 500 as compensation. She was imprisoned at Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, where he will serve his sentence.
