DNA analysis has allowed to justify an innocent man who has been in prison for 25 years

After 25 years in prison for a crime he did not commit, a resident of new York, was acquitted thanks to a new analysis of DNA.

Rafael Ruiz was convicted in 1985 for sexually abusing a girl in East Harlem. 25-year-old Ruiz was sentenced to 25 years in prison and was released on parole in 2009.

Now 60-year-old Ruiz has fully justified due to the fact that his business took the Innocence project.

Ruiz condemned only on the testimony of the injured girl, who said that he was outwardly similar to the attacker. DNA analysis conducted just now, and it didn’t match the DNA of Ruiz.

«Testimony of the declarant at trial about the attack on her in 1984 differed significantly from her initial testimony to investigators, the statement of the Prosecutor’s office. She said that the detective was pushing her to ensure that she identified Rafael Ruiz, adding that «this guy causes women pain.»

As reported by the Innocence Project, the likely suspect was a neighbor of the brother of Ruiz, he had a history of violence against women.

Since 1958, the United States has canceled more than 2548 unjust sentences.

«A Prosecutor’s job is not to get convictions but to seek justice,» said Manhattan district attorney CY Vance.
