The boy scouts of America filed for bankruptcy amid hundreds of lawsuits on sexual violence

The boy scouts of America (BSA) filed in the court of Delaware statement of bankruptcy.

A youth organisation that celebrated its 110th anniversary on February 8, pointed out debt commitments in the amount of $100 to $500 million with assets of approximately $50 thousand.

A Declaration of bankruptcy is made at a time when scouts faced hundreds of court of claims on sexual violence, thousands of alleged victims of violence and reduce the number of members of the organization.

Floor Mons, a lawyer from Los Angeles, representing «hundreds of victims of sexual violence in separate trials», called the bankruptcy of the organization «tragedy.»

«These young men made a vow. They promised to be obedient, faithful, and honest. Many of them are very angry because the boy scouts of America did not fight as they should have been,» said Mons.

BSA has faced hundreds of lawsuits from alleged victims of sexual violence across the country – all claims are currently suspended due to the bankruptcy.

«We believe the victims, we support them, we pay for counseling psychologists. In accordance with the policies of the boy Scouts of America all cases of alleged abuse brought to the attention of law enforcement bodies», — noted in the BSA.

In April of last year in court it was stated that about 7,800 of the former leaders of the boy scouts were involved in the sexual abuse of more than 12 thousand children for 72 years.

The rumors about the bankruptcy of the organization began to circulate in December 2018, when The Wall Street Journal reported that BSA has hired law firm Sidley Austin LLP to assist when applying for bankruptcy.

Last week, the organization announced a partnership with 1in6, a leading organization for male survivors of sexual violence.

«We sincerely apologize to all the victims, — said Director General of the BSA Roger Mosby, announcing the partnership. In addition to implementing a strict policy to prevent abuse, we strive to provide every possible support.»
