Florida resident tried to mail-in dead wife to «test the system»

Florida authorities said they had charged a man with fraud when he tried to get a ballot in the mail for his deceased wife. He, in turn, said that he was only «trying to test the system.»

Manati County election observer Mike Bennett said he contacted the sheriff's office after a poll check showed that the wife of 62-year-old Larry Wiggins had died two years ago. It was then revealed that Wiggins forged the name of the late wife in the request for a vote, according to the Bradenton Herald.

The man explained his actions by saying that he wanted to «test the system to make sure it works.»

Such incidents are rare in the county and the state as a whole, Bennett said.

“We want to convey to the voters: any electoral fraud will be punished. — he stressed — If you are caught, then a criminal case will be opened.

“Many people think that mail voting is vulnerable to scammers, but this is not the case. We always check information and catch criminals. «
