Los Angeles Resident Helps Deputy Sheriff Conduct Fake Raid And Steal Over 1,200 Pounds Of Marijuana

A man from east Los Angeles was sentenced to two years in prison after helping an off-duty sheriff's deputy conduct a fake raid and steal more than half a ton of marijuana from a downtown warehouse, according to court documents received Wednesday.

Daniel Aguilera, 32, was among six defendants accused of conspiring with former Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy Mark Antrim to rob a legal cannabis warehouse in October 2018.

Aguilera pleaded guilty to conspiracy last year, confirming that he helped Antrim in an armed robbery.

Pretending to be law enforcement officers carrying out the raid, the robbers stole marijuana, as well as safe boxes containing cash and money orders. Antrim, who worked for the Temple City Sheriff's Office, used his badge and a fake search warrant to break into the premises, accompanied by other defendants dressed as police officers.

Antrim and his associates successfully escaped with more than 1,200 pounds of marijuana and two large safes filled with $ 600,000 in cash — but the arrests began just days later.

During a previous hearing in Los Angeles federal court, a judge called the scheme «a brazen, dangerous and carefully planned crime.»
