OnlyFans scraps plans to ban porn content after criticism

OnlyFans has abandoned plans to ban pornographic content — less than a week after the UK-based content maker site announced the change, citing the need to comply with banking partner policies.

On Wednesday, the company said it had “provided the assurance needed to support our diverse community creators», implying that it has entered into new agreements with banks to pay funds to OnlyFans content creators: including those who share sexually explicit content.

«Thank you all for letting your voices be heard . We have received the assurances we need to support our diverse community of creators and have put our planned policy change on hold on October 1st,” the post reads.

“OnlyFans stands for inclusion and we will continue to support all creators.”

OnlyFans' decision to ban porn content infuriated sex workers who relied on the site to support themselves. In desperation, some content makers have already deactivated their OnlyFans pages and moved to other platforms. Founded in 2016, the site claims to have over 130 million registered users and over 2 million content creators.

While OnlyFans gained popularity mainly due to its pornography policy, the company aimed to reach wider audience. For example, this month it officially launched OFTV, a streaming app that excludes sexually explicit content, in part for distribution on porn-banning platforms. OFTV is available on Android, iOS, Apple TV, Roku, Amazon’s Fire TV, Android TV and Samsung Smart TV.
