New York passed a law that enables to sue the nosy neighbor

«I’d hate to have someone watching my kids in the backyard,» said TASO Vassiliou from Queens.

«I have the right to inviolability of private life,’ said Fran Bozi from Queens, I don’t want people filming what I do!»

On Wednesday the Governor of the state of new York, Andrew Cuomo, signed the bill about monitoring back yard. According to him, if you feel anger, anxiety, or you feel that you are being followed or there is another threat from your neighbor who is watching you with video cameras, you don’t need to call the police, you can immediately contact your own lawyer.

«This is not a criminal case – the case in civil law, commented a member of the Assembly of the state of new York, Edward Braunstein, who was the initiator of the law, you just ask the court that your neighbor has removed the camera.»

Braunstein advised to first ask the neighbor to voluntarily stop the surveillance. If he refuses, you can start a lawsuit.

The law enters into force on 15 September. Homeowners and tenants are entitled by law to sue.
