Popular travel website TripAdvisor has started to place special symbols on the pages of hotels and resorts, in which were recorded the facts of sexual violence and other serious problems.
The site takes information from news sources and comments left by users. New measure pursues the preventive purpose – the security, the prevention of discrimination and damage to health.
«These icons will remain on TripAdvisor for up to three months. However, if the problem persists, we can extend the validity of the badge,» said a company spokesman Kevin Carter. «Icons are designed to inform, not to punish.»
According to Carter, the decision to add or delete icon will be taken by the special Committee. Badges will not be removed from the website TripAdvisor , regardless of the number of complaints. «We want consumers to have seen good and bad reviews about the business. Comments will still be posted on the website.»
Previously few user comments about sexual assault were removed for various reasons. In one case, the woman used the incorrect form of presentation, the second girl was not a direct party to the conflict, and learned about it from the words of a third party. Now such strict selection of the messages will not, the company said.
