Recently, the Department for business improvement Flatiron/23rd Street Partnership (BID) and Van Alen Institute announced the winner of the fourth annual competition of Flatiron Public Plaza Holiday Design Competition. This year the best of the best was a project Flatiron Reflection of Future Expansion, which will be a temporary installation in one of the most prosperous areas of new York.

Flatiron Reflection will help new Yorkers gain a new perspective on their city. The installation will consist of several shining mirrored pipe, combined together in a common column with a small depression inside, which is somewhat reminiscent of the scene. The conical shape of the niche allows you to hide from sight all unnecessary, and focus looking at the Flatiron Building and adjacent buildings, which look very picturesque against the sky.

The project was designed to look good both near and at a distance. When you walk past it, you will be able to notice the play of light, shadows and reflections change the appearance of an art object on the background of buildings and trees. In the distance the curved walls create blurred reflections, which become more clear as you get closer to the installation.

See Flatiron Reflection will be on the North Flatiron Public Plaza at the intersection of Broadway, Fifth Avenue and 23rd Street. The installation will remain there until 1 January. Throughout the festive season, the organizers suggest visitors to use the hashtag #FlatironReflection on Twitter and Instagram to share photos and experiences and to participate in the contest with prizes from local companies.
