The founder of Swedish furniture company IKEA Ingvar Kamprad died in his sleep at his home in småland, in southern Sweden.
The entrepreneur died yesterday, January 27, 92nd year of life surrounded by their loved ones. This was reported by the press service of IKEA International Group. In a statement, the company noted that Kamprad was «one of the greatest entrepreneurs of the 20th century.»
Kamprad founded the firm in 1943 when he was just 17 years old. It was originally a store in the garden shed of his family. This firm later became the global brand and was named IKEA.
«Ingvar Kamprad was a great entrepreneur, tipicim for Southern Sweden — hardworking and stubborn enthusiast with a playful shimmer in his eyes. He worked until the very end of his life, staying true to its motto that much remains to be done,» — said on the website of the company.
The businessman said in numerous interviews that flies economy class, and the furniture in his house — all from IKEA.
Kamprad was involved in a scandal after the media found out that, as a teenager, he became a member of the Nazi party. The businessman has called it «the greatest mistake of his life» after he was sent almost EUR 100 million for charity.
