At the turn of the century , George Boldt, a millionaire and owner of the world famous Waldorf Astoria in new York, decided to build a full-sized castle in Alexandria Bay, on the beautiful island of Heart Island. The grandiose structure was to be the material proof and eternal symbol of his love for his wife, Louise.

Construction began in 1900. Worked on the project 300 people, including masons, carpenters and artists. They had to create a six-story castle with 120 rooms, where there was tunnels, a powerhouse, Italian gardens, a drawbridge, Allerca tower and cottage for pigeons. Boldt spared no expense on the construction, because everything had to be perfect.

But in January 1904, tragedy struck – Laura died. Boldt sent to the island a telegram with instructions to the workers immediately to stop the construction.
