Natalie Portman has refused to attend the ceremony in Israel in protest against «violence and corruption»

A few days ago, in the 70-th anniversary of independence of Israel, the press service of the national prize «Genesis» reported that this year the award ceremony is canceled. The reason was the failure of the famous American actress of Israeli origin Natalie Portman to come to the country for a reward.

This news has caused a wave of negatives to the address of Portman in social networks and among the political elite of Israel. The Minister of culture and sports of the country, Miri Regev suggested that the actress has joined the BDS movement (economic and political boycott of Israel).

In response to Portman released an official statement on his page on Instagram, highlighting what was done by previous conclusions are incorrect, and asking them not to consider other people’s fantasies are a reflection of her point of view.

«I decided not to attend the ceremony «Genesis» because I don’t want to have the impression that I support Benjamin Netanyahu, set to speak at the presentation of the speech. I do not participate in the BDS movement and not to encourage it. How many Jews and citizens of Israel, I am as critical of the country’s leadership, while not boycotting the whole nation,» wrote the actress.

The actress added that «the State of Israel was created 70 years ago to the Jewish people, who suffered from the Holocaust, found a safe haven here. But how cruel the current government of the country treats people, just not consistent with my Jewish values. I care about Israel, and therefore it is my duty to resist violence, corruption, inequality and abuse of power.»
