Died in USA Naum Korzhavin

Russian poet of Jewish origin Naum Korzhavin has died at the age of 92 at his home in chapel hill (North Carolina). The first reported family friend Veronica Valley.

The reason for the death of the poet, who emigrated to the United States in the 1970s, became acute heart failure. According to the daughter korzhavina — Helena Rubenstein, the funeral service will be held on June 30 in the U.S., and then expect the poet to be cremated and transported to Russia to be buried in Moscow.

Born in Kiev Naum Korzhavin (real name — Mandel) decided to leave the USSR in 1973 year, citing a lack of «air for life». This step was the culmination of the tense relations with the Soviet government, which even in 1947, when the poet was arrested in the framework of the campaign «against cosmopolitanism». Then korzhavina was sentenced to exile, and he returned only 7 years later, having received Amnesty.

After moving to the States, the poet settled in Boston, where he continued actively engaged in literary and creative activities. A few years ago Korzhavin decided to move to chapel hill to be closer to family.

Among the most famous of his works — collections «Years«, «Times» and «Plexus«, the play «One day in the twenties«and the biography «In temptations of the bloody epoch«.
