In FIDM opened an exhibition of the best costumes from the movies-the Oscar nominees 2019. Admission is free

Good costumes in films help the audience be transported into the right era and place of action. And the best costumes get a nomination for «Oscar»!

Have you seen these outfits on the big screen, and now they can get a closer look at the Museum of the Institute of design (FIDM). They became part of the exhibition The Art of Motion Picture Costume Design. This annual event, which starts right before the «Oscar», where 5 of the 25 movies get a nomination for best costume design. Visitors to the exhibition will see over 100 costumes from more than 25 movies released in 2018. To see the exhibition is completely free.

Ruth Carter-nominated for the costumes for «Black Panther», said it was not easy to come up with the characters of the film. Meetings designer with the crew to discuss the appearance of the inhabitants of finding wakanda was more than in her entire career. But for Carter it was very important to picture the world, whom no one has seen before. And it turned out perfectly.

Some of the costumes in «the Return of Mary Poppins» was created to seem two-dimensional. This technique is especially impressive when you have the chance to see her closer.

In 2019 a nomination For «best costume design» received:

Mary Zophres — «the Ballad of Buster the Scruggs.»

Ruth Carter — «Black Panther»

Sandy Powell — «the Favourite» and»Mary Poppins returns»

Alexandra Byrne — «Mary Queen of Scots.»

Expert FIDM Nick Verreos told how the costumes complete the image of the character. Many times when an actor or actress end up fitting, that’s the last kind of the final step, that is when they really enter into the role and become the person who is their character.
