«I just can’t believe I just did that,’ said SELA after his historic climb. Sometimes I was scared, but in General, I think it’s pretty fun!».

The girl hails from Glenwood springs (Colorado), and the iconic route she did with a small team that includes her father, Mike, the instructor of rock climbing, while joy’s mother nervously watched them from below.

«I was worried about how she will be able to perform such a great job, because it’s so small. But I knew that Mike would protect her. I’m proud of her,» admitted the mother of SELA, who herself is fond of climbing.

Previously, the record belonged to Scott Corey, who was 11 years old when he twice climbed the Nose of El Capitan in 2001.

The father of SELA insists that to break the record was not their primary motivation.

«We did it to ourselves; it was her energy and her idea,» said Mike Snater.

According to the girl’s parents, climbing in her blood, as they fell for each other while climbing on El Capitan 15 years ago.
